Stunning New Silk Fabrics

Posted on 03 August 2018

September marks the start of the of the Autumn / Winter lighting season and we can’t wait to get our hands on some new products! The summer seems to be flying by and we have had a sneak preview of some beautiful new fabrics that will be available by The Light Shade Studio very soon.

The Light Shade Studio are always our go-to supplier of 100% Silk Shades, we love that they are Made In England and can be tailored to your bespoke requirements. The range of fabrics currently stands at 13 outers made from 100% silk and four inner laminates, which are available on any of the wide range of frames they offer. This selection is set to grow to 23 outer fabrics very soon, with three subsections now being created. The current line of fabrics is a textured dupion fabric with the expected slubbing, however a new range of seven satin fabrics, which have a smooth appearance, will be introduced alongside a four new linen options.

The linen collection, which are made from 100% silk, adds an elegant matt sheen and solid depth of colour that is available in four subtle tones. Bone, Limestone, Marshmallow and Slate Grey will be available to order with the choice of white, gold, silver and bronze inner laminates.

The new satin fabric range, which uses a combination of cotton and polyester, creates a luxuriously smooth finish which is available in Swan, Almond Cream, Cloud, Graphite, Ballet Pink, Copper Oxide and Teal.

Inner laminates offer the option to customise your chosen shade further. As standard The Light Shade Studio shades have the white lining, which does allow the most light to pass through the shade although when illuminated the fabric colour can appear less solid. The three metallic laminates available, gold, silver and bronze, are perfect for matching to other accent colours in your room or to the colour of the table lamp base if this sits below. When adding a metallic laminate to your silk shade the white lining is used first and then finished with the metallic laminate being the final layer. This additional layer prevents light passing through the shade and forces it to expel from the top and bottom openings, creating an attractive light spill in your chosen colour. This light spill can be particularly effective on a table lamp if you match it to the colour of the base, for example a bronze laminate lining above a bronze table lamp base creates a soothing warm glow – perfect in the winter months to come!

Keep an eye out for these new fabrics appearing online and in our showroom very soon. If you would like to see more from The Light Shade Studio head over to their brand new website now where you can create your perfect silk shades and see on screen how the fabrics and laminates work together.

Our personal favourite of the new fabrics has to be the Ballet Pink Satin, we are sure this will be a huge hit in the coming season. Its smooth finish and delicate colouring work perfectly together, and even better with a bronze laminate lining!
